Getting strings for a file app-ads.txt

What is ads.txt and app-ads.txt

app-ads.txt — is a specific file that helps you to determine which advertising networks and their partners can sell ads in your application.

We recommend publishing the file app-ads.txt for several reasons:

  • The quality of advertising. You can only allow access to your ad placement to networks that you trust. MyTarget moderate all ads: they are complied with the legislation of the Russian Federation and the principles of the Service.
  • The number of offers for advertising. MyTarget helps to place their ads both direct advertisers and other DSP networks. DSP networks often check the file app-ads.txt when purchasing advertising placements — they require checking that the ads are being sold legally. If there is no app-ads.txt, DSP networks may refuse to purchase the placement.
  • Payment for placement. To be sure of payments add only verified partners you cooperate with.
  • Confirmation of access to the application. MyTarget can use the hosted file app-ads.txt as a confirmation that you really have access to the application which you are creating ad placements for.
The file is located in the root folder on the application developer's website and is publicly available — it can be analyzed by programmatic platforms, agencies and advertisers.

How to create and publish a file

Step 1. Fill in the address of the developer's website in the app store (or check that the current address is correct). Advertising platforms check the link there to find and check the file app-ads.txt.

If you don't have your own website, we recommend creating one: you can use free hosting to host the file.

Step 2. Create a file app-ads.txt . To do this:
1. Open the "Profile" tab → "ads.txt and app-ads.txt"
Getting the code for ads.txt and app-ads.txt
    2. Copy and paste the lines of code into the file hosted on your web server. If you sell ads using several advertising networks, copy their lines to the file as well.

    Example of a string:

    example.com, 1234, DIRECT,

    where

    • example.com — domain name
    • 1234 — Publisher's account ID
    • DIRECT — the type of relationship with the seller. It can be DIRECT (for advertising networks with which you cooperate directly) and RESELLER (for third-party intermediaries that are used to sell inventory).
Step 3. Upload the file to the root directory of the developer's site.

Check if everything is published correctly: enter your domain in the browser with app-ads.txt : for example, example.com/app-ads.txt. If everything is correct a page will open and show the contents of the file.
